USA Field Hockey Men’s Indoor Team Qualifies for World Cup
COLORADO SPRINGS, CO.- The USA Men’s Indoor Team has qualified to compete in the 3rd FIH Indoor World Cup to be held February 8-13, 2011 in
“Having the chance to compete at the Indoor World Cup has been my goal ever since I joined the squad a few years back. I am extremely excited and looking forward to the opportunity to train for and hopefully compete in the Indoor World Cup in Poland,” said team member JaJa Kentwell.
The first Indoor World Cup was held in Leipzig, Germany in 2003 and the USA Men’s team qualified and finished 11th. The men did not qualify for the 2nd Indoor World Cup held in Vienna, Austria in 2007.
“Indoor hockey has been played for over 50 years in Europe and the top countries all come from there,” said USA Men’s Indoor Hockey Coach, Peter Jones. “Canada has placed 6th and 7th at the last two Indoor World Cups and the Australians have also produced good teams, but the top standard of play is set by Germany, Poland, Austria and Russia.”
The USA will prepare for the upcoming Indoor World Cup in Poland by touring Scotland, England Austria and Germany in January 2011.
“When you play a sport, what more could you want than the chance to test yourself against the best teams and players in the world,” said Jones. “It is a tremendous opportunity for the USA Men’s Indoor team.”
