Executive Director's Report - Week of May 3
|
May 04, 2010,
12:00 PM ET
Within USA Field Hockey, we recognize it is our
responsibility to grow the sport and produce a successful Olympic Team
(for both women and men).Currently, due to logistical and
geographic reasons, many people on the East Coast have not had the
opportunity to see our National Women's or Men's Teams play as most
training activity for the women takes place at the Chula Vista Olympic
Training Center (OTC) near San Diego. We have some competitive events
there as well, and the men train both at Moorpark, CA, and in the
Chula Vista OTC.
In 2010, the Women's National Team will have a slight change in
scenery as they migrate east to the campus of American University in
Washington, DC to take on a stalwart Argentina team. Here is the
scoop:
The USA Field Hockey Women's National Team welcomes Argentina to
the nation's capital for a five game test series this May. The series
will be played at Jacobs Field at American University in Washington,
DC. The first match is scheduled for Thursday, May 13 at 6:00pm.
Admission for all games is FREE. U.S. National Team players will be
available to sign autographs after the Saturday and Sunday games.
The 2008 Olympic Games bronze medalists, Argentina's Las Leonas
are ranked number two in the world in the ABN-AMRO WorldHockey Team
Rankings, and are in training for the 2010 Women's World Cup in
Rosario, Argentina.
The series features the first senior international field hockey
competition on the East Coast since October 2007, when the USA faced
Japan at the University of Maryland.

Thanks to American University and Coach Steve Jennings
(Assistant Coach for USA Field Hockey's Women's National Team and
the Olympic Team at the Beijing Olympic Games) for hosting us and
providing a great facility.
So, East-Coasters, this is a great chance to watch hockey played at
the highest level; to see individual stars (many of whom played at
nearby schools and clubs); to bring your teams together and learn;
and, it all is for FREE!
Did you get it? Did you receive the survey sent to all
members last week? The USA Field Hockey Board of Directors is making
every attempt to reach out to the membership to ask and listen to what
the membership (you) wants this organization to do for you as you
participate and/or support the sport. Six basic questions were posed
in the survey. If you did not receive the survey link or misplaced it,
here it is again:
http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=XGFWuokJORONzboJMhAY0g_3d_3d
All that you need to do is go through the link, complete the
survey, and submit it electronically according to the instructions
provided. It is easy, and much appreciated.
In addition to the survey, USA Field Hockey is conducting a series of
Town Hall Meetings for members and the public to speak to the survey
questions and to bring up other concerns. The Town Hall Meeting dates,
locations, and times will be posted on the USA Field Hockey website
as the dates approach. The responses will be compiled at the
conclusion of the Town Hall Meetings (sometime in November) and shared
with the Board and the membership through this report.
From The Late Show with David Letterman: "New
York City has opened an all-dog nightclub. It's the only one of its
kind in the world - because it's stupid."
Have a great hockey week!
