USA Field Hockey Weekly Report-Week of July 5, 2010

I looked at the date of this week’s report (week of July 5th) and realized that the summer is scampering away rapidly. I hope it is going well for you.
This week’s report covers just one topic as the subject is quite important to the governance of sport.

In last week’s report, it was mentioned that we are going through the process of seeking interest from those USA Field Hockey members who may have an interest in sport organization governance.
I have found over the years that many people do have that sort of interest, but do not know how to get involved. Typically in national governing bodies people are sought with skill-sets that are beneficial to the organization.

The following is a solicitation from the USA Field Hockey Nominations Committee chaired by Kevin Parker. This committee is working hard to find the right candidates to help shape the future of field hockey in the USA:

Open positions on the Board of US Field Hockey
Would you like to frame and shape the next four years of USA Field Hockey?

This is your chance to give back to the sport you love. We all have ideas and changes we'd like to see in how hockey is run and governed. Now YOU can make a difference.

Applications are being taken now. They must be received by September 30th, so act quickly (please send to: kevinparkerusa@yahoo.com). Go to the USA Field Hockey website and download and complete the application form and return it as soon as possible.
This year 5 of the 12 board seats are coming up for renewal. The term of the new board members will run from January 1st 2011, until December 31st 2014 with an option to renew for another 4 years.

As a board member you'll be expected to attend meetings 4 times a year--some in person, some on the phone. You will need to be a USFHA member in good standing, make an annual monetary contribution (no specific amount) and be 18 years old or older. In addition you will be expected to help with fundraising activities.

The next four years are going to be very exciting as we push forward with our campaigns for the 2012 Olympics in London, we develop the depth of hockey across the country and we strengthen the men's and women's national teams. Remember the deadline for applications is September 30th.

Today is Tuesday and everyone is returning, hopefully, safely from the July 4th Holiday. I could not find any appropriate quotes for this week so I will find an abundant supply for next week’s report!

Have a great week!
