BEIJING (AP) Australia has defeated the Netherlands 6-2 to win the bronze medal in Olympic men's field hockey.

Australia's Eddie Ockenden scored two goals in the first six minutes of Saturday's match. The Aussies extended their edge to 3-0 on a goal by Des Abbott three minutes later.

Taeke Taekema scored in the 12th minute, then Teun de Nooijer scored in the 27th as the Dutch cut Australia's lead to 3-2.

Australia's Eli Mathison scored a minute after de Nooijer's goal to make it 4-2 at halftime.

In the second half, Australia's Robert Hammond scored in the 42nd minute to make it 5-2, and Luke Doerner closed the scoring in the 62nd minute.
