The Futures Athletes Umpire the Futures League
During each Futures session Futures athletes will be competing in a Futures 6 aside hockey league. Each athlete will be placed on a team for the league and will remain on that team throughout the Futures season. As part of the league structure, Futures athletes will be assigned to umpire a Futures League game. The games are 6 aside and played with modified rules. Head Coaches will be appointing who will be umpiring the Futures session prior to when each athlete will be umpiring. Players who are appointed to umpire the Hockey 6’s need to do the following prior to the session you are assigned to umpire.
Futures Hockey Homework
- Log onto the Futures site and watch the Jump In video on umpiring.
- Read the Rules of Hockey.
- Take the quick rules test for Futures Hockey 6’s umpires
By the end of Futures athletes will know how to:
- blow a whistle properly
- know primary umpire hand signals
- have read the Rules of Hockey
- watched the Jump In video on basic umpiring
- and experience ‘live action’ umpiring the Hockey 6’s.
It is important athletes know the rules of the game and understand basic umpiring. Believe it or not, it makes YOU a better player!!
