(Colorado Springs, Colo.) – USA Fencing CEO Val Belmonte (Colorado Springs, Colo.) was selected as one of fewer than 40 leaders within the U.S. Olympic family to participate in the Olympic Sport Leadership Certificate Program at Northwestern University.

The year-long program begins today and was developed jointly with the U.S. Olympic Committee and the Kellogg Center for Non-Profit Management at Northwestern, the OSLCP provides executive-level business education customized to meet the unique needs of organizations involved in Olympic sport.

“It’s an honor to have been selected for this program with many of my executive colleagues at both the USOC and the NGBs. I’m looking forward to this as an opportunity to both expand my network within the Olympic family and apply what I learn to helping better USA Fencing as an organization,” Belmonte said.

Participants were selected from departments of the USOC, NGB leadership and members of the Athlete Advisory Council. Those chosen for the program will attend four three or four-day sessions that will be held at Northwestern, the Oklahoma City Boathouse and the Chula Vista Training Center with the final session taking place in December of 2013 at the Colorado Springs Olympic Training Center.

Belmonte and his colleagues will participate in interactive sessions on topics such as competitive strategy, leading change, strategic marketing, negotiations and decision making and innovation strategy.

The first session begins today at Northwestern University and will run through Thursday.
