Four U.S. divers advance to finals on day one of International Youth Diving Meet in Dresden

Four U.S. divers advanced to the finals on the first day of competition Thursday at the International Youth Diving Meet in Dresden, Germany.

Grace Cable (Durham, N.C.) was the highest finisher for Team USA on day one of competition. She placed fifth in the group A girls’ platform final with 355.85 points. Great Britain’s Ruby Bower won the event with 387.40 points.  

Two U.S. divers advanced to the girls’ group B 1-meter final, with Maysi Richards (Keller, Texas) scoring 292.60 points for eighth and Sophia McAfee (San Marino, Calif.) placing ninth at 289.80. Germany’s Julia Deng won with 321.00 points.

Lyle Yost
(Shaker Heights, Ohio) advanced to the group A boys’ 3-meter final and placed ninth with 491.35 points. Switzerland’s Jonathan Suckow topped the field with 572.10 points. Jacob Fielding (Los Angeles) also competed for Team USA and placed 21st with 418.20 points in the preliminaries.

Competition continues through Sunday, April 23. Friday’s events feature group B boys’ 3-meter, group A boys’ 1-meter, group B girls’ platform and girls’ synchronized 3-meter.
