Semifinal field set at 2014 USA Curling Mixed National Championship

(STEVENS POINT, Wis.) - The field is set for Friday's semifinals at the 2014 USA Curling Mixed National Championship at the South Wood County Recreational Center in Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.

Teams skipped by Brady Clark (Lynnwood, Wash.), Sean Murray (Hartland, Wis.), Al Gulseth (Fargo, N.D.), and Greg Wilson (Vernon Hills, Ill.) have advanced to the playoffs, which get underway at 4 p.m. CDT Friday. Washington, Wisconsin and North Dakota all finished the round robin with identical 7-2 records. Because head-to-head records could not determine seeding, the team with the best cumulative pre-game draw shot challenge score - Washington - was awarded the top playoff seed.

Clark and teammates Cristin Clark (Lynnwood, Wash.), Derrick McLean (Bothell, Wash.), and Bev Hale (Seattle) will face Wilson's Illinois rink, which finished with a 6-3 record and will be the No. 4 seed. Wisconsin and North Dakota will face off in the other semifinal. The winning sides will advance to Saturday's gold-medal game with the losing sides playing for bronze. Both games will be played at 1 p.m.

Murray and his team of Heather Betzhold (Hartland, Wis.), Mike Graziano (St. Paul, Minn.), and Paige Caulum (Middleton, Wis.) picked up two wins today to clinch their playoff spot after dropping two games yesterday. In the morning draw, Wisconsin bettered Illinois, 10-7, and then defeated Washington, 9-2.

North Dakota had just one game on tap today and Gulseth and teammates Nicole Reiser (Mandan, N.D.), Mark Gulseth (Frazee, Minn.), and Patty Olesen (Fargo, N.D.) swept past California's Adam Endicott, 9-5, to seal up their spot in the semifinals.

After the morning loss to Wisconsin, Wilson's Illinois squad of Pam Wilson (Vernon Hills, Ill.), Collin Rittgers (Highland Park, Ill.), and Michele Rittgers (Highland Park, Ill.) held off Minnesota's Randy Baird rink, 9-4, to earn the final playoff spot.
