USA ladies 3-1, men improve to 2-2 at 2014 World Junior Championships in Switzerland

(STEVENS POINT, Wis.) - The U.S. men won their second straight game at the 2014 World Junior Championships in Flims, Switzerland, to even their record with a 7-4 win this morning over Italy at Waldhaus Arena.

Vukich (Seattle) and teammates Evan McAuley (Sammamish, Wash.), Luc Violette (Granite Falls, Wash.), Kyle Lorvick (Seattle), and Alex Fenson (Bemidji, Minn.) are now 2-2 after the victory over the Amos Mosaner rink.

"It was a much needed win," said Lorvick, 17. "Obviously, with two losses already, this win keeps us alive. Hopefully, we keep our momentum heading into the rest of the week. It feels good to win.

The U.S. capitalized on mistakes by the Italians to steal three points midway through the game that helped propel them to the eventual victory. "Like yesterday we had a lot more confidence than we usually do. We weren't as timid as we had been earlier in the week and we played with a lot of confidence," Lorvick said.

Last night, Cory Christensen (Duluth, Minn.) led the U.S. ladies to their third straight victory as they swept past Denmark, 8-2. The win improves Christensen and teammates Mackenzie Lank (Lewiston, N.Y.), Anna Bauman (Duluth, Minn.), Anna Hopkins (Bismarck, N.D.), and Tina Persinger (Fairbanks, Alaska) to 3-1 in the round robin standings.

"That was a good one," said Hopkins, 18, after the win. "We played our best in the first five ends, and then we came out strong after the fifth-end break. I'm hoping that we can keep going forward and keep on like we do and keep on with the wins."

The U.S. ladies controlled their match with Denmark (0-4) by staying ahead on the scoreboard. A steal of three points in the seventh end put the game out of reach for the Danes.

The round robin continues today as the U.S. ladies play Scotland (1-3) and Italy (1-3) while the men return to the ice this afternoon to take on Austria (1-3).
