Dec 13 WWUG in Italy

USA men 2-1, women 0-3 at Winter World University Games in Italy

(STEVENS POINT, Wis.) - Team USA had an up-and-down day at the 2013 Winter World University Games in Trentino, Italy, at the Baselga di Pine Ice Stadium.

Chris Plys (Duluth, Minn.) and teammates Stephen Dropkin (Southborough, Mass.), Sean Beighton (Seattle), Korey Dropkin (Southborough, Mass.), Tom Howell (Brick, N.J.) started the day with a 10-4 win over Czech Republic's Lukas Klima rink but then lost a close match with Sweden's Oskar Eriksson, 4-1. The loss drops the U.S. men to 2-1. 

Cory Christensen (Duluth, Minn.) and her team of Becca Funk (McFarland, Wis.), Anna Bauman (Duluth, Minn.), Mackenzie Lank (Lewiston, N.Y.), and Sonja Bauman (Duluth, Minn.) fell to Korea's Ji Sun Kim rink, 6-2, to drop to 0-3 in the standings.

The U.S. teams are competing in a round robin with the top four advancing to the semifinals on Dec. 19. The gold-medal games will be played on Dec. 20. TV coverage of the men's final will be part of CBS Sports Network's coverage of the event. The air time is set for 11 a.m. ET on Dec. 20.
