Action heats up at 2009 US Mixed ChampionshipMEDFORD, Wis. - Wisconsin and Arizona are the frontrunners so far after two rounds of action at the 2009 U.S. Mixed National Championship at the four-sheet Medford Curling Club.
Arizona's Fred Maxie (Phoenix) and teammates Anne Stuhlman (New Hartford, N.Y.), Richard Maskel (Green Bay, Wis.) and Carol Ann Naso (Fountain Hills, Ariz.) handed North Dakota I's Al Gulseth rink a 13-5 defeat to improve to 2-0.
Playing on home ice, Wisconsin's team of Ryan Lemke (Medford, Wis.), Jackie Lemke (Medford), Kroy Nernberger (Madison, Wis.) and Rebecca Wood (Madison) held off Ohio's Robb Borland, 7-6, to keep pace with the Coyotes Curling Club team.
Minnesota's Peter Stolt rink also is undefeated at 1-0 as they edged Connecticut's Derek Surka rink, 9-8, in the opening round. Surka's rink bounced back with a 9-4 win over Russ Armstrong's team from Illinois to improve to .500.
