Milwaukee Admirals help raise money for U.S. curlers
(STEVENS POINT, Wis.) - In the spirit of the giving often highlighted during the holidays, the Milwaukee Admirals held a Salute to Curling Monday night at the Bradley Center in Milwaukee, Wis., as a fund-raiser for the 2010 U.S. Olympic Team for Curling.
A promotion was put in place that $4 from each ticket bought by curlers and curling fans would go toward supporting Team USA. In all, 167 tickets were purchased by Wisconsin-area curling clubs to help raise $668 for the Olympic team. In a time of tight purse strings and limited sponsorship opportunities, USA Curling is appreciative of this valuable support.
2010 U.S. Olympic curling team members and Wisconsin natives Debbie McCormick (Rio, Wis.), Nicole Joraanstad (Madison, Wis.) and Coach Wally Henry (Beaver Dam, Wis.) conducted a 10-minute curling demonstration during the second intermission of the matchup between the Admirals and the Grand Rapids Griffins (Milwaukee won, 5-2).
"It was an honor to have the U.S .women's curling team join us," said Admirals President Jon Greenberg. "Their demonstration had our crowd captivated and we wish them the best of luck in Vancouver."
The 2010 Olympic curling team members depart for Vancouver on Feb. 6. Curling competition at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games gets underway Feb. 16 from the Vancouver Olympic Center.
USA Curling is sponsored by AIT Worldwide Logistics, bitRail and Nike and is partnered with CurlingZone.com.
