March 21, 2008 Wisconsin, North Dakota 2 advance to final at 2008 U.S. Mixed Championship (DETROIT) - First Wisconsin's Ryan Lemke rink won the tiebreaker game this morning just to get to the semifinals and then they knocked off the No. 1 ranked Connecticut rink to advance to Saturday's championship final at 1 p.m. ET against North Dakota 2's Duane Symons team at the 2008 U.S. Mixed National Championship. Lemke (Medford, Wis.) and teammates Jackie Lemke (Medford, Wis.), Kroy Nernberger (Madison, Wis.), Becca Wood (Wausau, Wis.) and Megan O'Connell (Medford, Wis.) ousted Derek Surka's Connecticut team, 9-4, to advance to the gold-medal game for the first time. Surka's team scored a single in the first end and stole one in the second end to take an early lead but it would be short-lived. Lemke's team scored four points in the third end and never trailed again. Surka (New Haven, Conn.) and teammates Charrissa Lin (New Haven, Conn.), Sean Murray (Edgewood, Md.) and Rachel Sethi (Falls Church, Va.) were forced to one point in the fourth end and watched as Wisconsin scored a deuce and stole three points over the next two ends to increase the lead to 9-3. After scoring one more single in the eighth end, Connecticut would concede the win. They'll play Fred Maxie's Arizona team in the bronze medal game at 10 a.m. ET Saturday. North Dakota 2 advanced to its first championship final as well as Symons and teammates Val Nash (Devils Lake, N.D.), Chad Carlson (Fisher, Minn.) and Christine Mikulich (Eveleth, Minn.) took down Maxie's Arizona rink, 7-5. With the game tied at 2-2 after six ends, North Dakota 2 put it into high gear scoring three points in the seventh end and following up with a steal of two for a 7-2 advantage. Maxie (Phoenix) and teammates Cindy Kortebein (Knoxville, Tenn.), Richard Maskel (Green Bay, Wis.) and Jan Legacie (Edmore, N.D.) closed the gap with a deuce in the ninth end but could only steal one point in the 10th to succumb to North Dakota 2.
