FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE March 17, 2008 McCormick rink to make third straight appearance at 2008 Women's Worlds (STEVENS POINT, Wis.) - Debbie McCormick will once again lead her team at the 2008 Ford World Women's Championship beginning Saturday at the Greater Vernon Multiplex in Vernon, British Columbia. This is the third straight appearance for McCormick (Rio, Wis.) and teammates Allison Pottinger (Eden Prairie, Minn.), Nicole Joraanstad (Madison, Wis.) and Natalie Nicholson (Bemidji, Minn.). Joining the team as the alternate is 2003 world champion Tracy Sachtjen (Lodi, Wis.). They are coached by Wally Henry (Beaver Dam, Wis.). The U.S. women look to improve on their fourth-place finish last year in Aomori, Japan, after winning silver in 2006. The U.S. will get strong competition from Canada's Jennifer Jones rink of Winnipeg, Manitoba, a team that McCormick's rink has struggled against in World Curling Tour competitions. Last year's silver medalists from Denmark, two-time Olympic silver medalist Mirjam Ott of Switzerland and Germany's Andrea Schopp, who is making her 15th appearance at worlds, will be other top contenders. Three rookie skips are in the field this year - Scotland's Gail Munro, Czech Republic's Katerina Urbanova and Sweden's Stina Viktorsson, who defeated the Swedish powerhouse led by Anette Norberg in the Swedish championships to qualify. Also competing are China, Japan, Russia and Italy.
