CURLING: USA finishes 2008 World Mixed Doubles with 3-4 record

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE March 12, 2008 USA finishes with win at 2008 World Mixed Doubles (STEVENS POINT, Wis.) - The U.S. team of Jamie Haskell and Nate Haskell of Bemidji, Minn., closed out the 2008 World Mixed Doubles Championship in Vierumaki, Finland, on a positive note with a 9-5 win over New Zealand. The Haskells fell behind early to New Zealand's team of Bridget Becker and Sean Becker but scored four points in the fourth end to take a 5-4 lead. The Kiwis only scored one in the fifth end and the Americans sealed the win with four straight points. The U.S. finishes the competition with a 3-4 record. Neither team advances to the playoffs. Switzerland (7-0) advances directly from their pool to the semifinals while Finland at 6-1 will play in a tiebreaker game. The top three teams in each pool earn the semifinal berths with the second-place teams in each pool playing off for the remaining semifinal spot.
