FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE March 11, 2008 USA eliminated from playoff contention at 2008 World Mixed Doubles (STEVENS POINT, Wis.) - 2006 Olympian Jamie Haskell and teammate Nate Haskell of Bemidji, Minn., were eliminated from the playoff hunt after losing to Switzerland, 8-4, Tuesday night at the 2008 World Mixed Doubles Championship in Vierumaki, Finland. With tonight's loss, the Americans fall to 2-4 in the round robin standings with just one game left. "They're a good team. They played really well against us," Jamie Haskell said of the undefeated Swiss team of Irene Schori and Toni Mueller. The Swiss got off to a solid start in tonight's match with three points in the first end. The U.S. closed the gap to 4-3 with a deuce in the fourth end but the Swiss countered with another three-ender and a steal of one. The Haskells could only get one point in the seventh end and conceded the victory to their opponent. Jamie Haskell continues to battle the flu, much like many of the athletes competing at this event and at the World Senior Championships, which are taking place in the same venue. "I'm still not 100 percent. I feel like I have an outer body. I haven't been this sick for a very long time," she said. "Nate is feeling OK now... I think he's just disappointed with the losses." Team USA finishes the round robin against New Zealand (4-2) tomorrow afternoon. The top team in each pool advances to the semifinals. The second-place teams in each pool will play off to decide the final semifinal berth.
