March 10, 2008 USA forfeits match due to illness at 2008 World Mixed Doubles (STEVENS POINT, Wis.) - An unwelcome strain of the flu caused the U.S. team to forfeit its match today at the World Mixed Doubles Championship in Vierumaki, Finland. Team USA's Jamie Haskell (Bemidji, Minn.) tried to tough it out but could only make it through one end as forcing her and teammate Nate Haskell to forfeit to Denmark's team of Denise Dupont and Lasse Dam, 1-0. An apparent flu outbreak has taken its toll on many of the athletes in this event as well as at the World Senior Championships. With the loss, the U.S. team falls to 2-2 in the round robin standings with five games left to play. They return to the ice at 9 a.m. Tuesday (local time) against China (3-1) and in the night game versus Switzerland (4-0). Live scoring can be found at www.curling.fi/en/competitions/leagues/2688.
