CURLING: 2006 Olympian now 2-1 at 2008 World Mixed Doubles

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE March 9, 2008 Team USA drops first game at World Mixed Doubles (STEVENS POINT, Wis.) - Team USA's Jamie and Nate Haskell of Bemidji, Minn., suffered their first loss at the 2008 World Mixed Doubles in Vierumaki, Finland, at the hands of Finland, 7-1. The Americans gave up one too many steals as Finland's team of Anne Malmi and Jussi Uusipaavalniemi stole three out of six ends played. The Finns took one point in the opening end and stole another one before the U.S. scored its only point of the match in the third end. The Finnish team scored a deuce in the fourth end and stole three more points over the next two before the Americans conceded the win. The U.S. team is back in action tomorrow against Denmark (0-3). Twenty-four teams are competing at the week-long event. The playoffs are scheduled for Friday with the championship final on Saturday.
