About Rich Ruohonen:

Curls out of: St. Paul Curling Club, St. Paul, Minn., and Four Seasons Curling Club, Blaine, Minn.

Nickname: Dick or Dr. Double

Curling start: "I started curling when I moved here to live with my dad in fifth grade at the old Arden Hills Club just before it closed and have been at the St. Paul Curling Club since."

What he enjoys most about curling: The strategy to curling. Meeting great people from all over the world. Oh, and being old and still being able to play at a high level.

Curling goals: To represent the United States at the Olympics and to win another National Championship.  I also hope to watch and/or coach my daughter at the World Championship or the Olympics someday.

Other sports: Softball, basketball, fishing, tennis

Training: Three days a week in 5:45 in the morning, I do spin class and then I lift weights the other two days.  On the weekend if I am not curling I try to go for a long bike ride or jog, although it does not always happen.   I also practice as much as I can when we are not playing in a bonspiel somewhere.  I also play three leagues (2 on one night at the St. Paul Curling Club and one at the Four Seasons Curling Club) starting in October and played in one league all summer at the new Four Seasons Curling Club which has ice year round.

Curling strengths: I think strategy and reading the ice is something I have really developed over the past several years and excel at for a person of my age. I also feel I am fairly consistent player and can throw about any type of curling shot.

Favorite curling moment: Winning the National Championship and playing at the World Championship and the Continental Cup.
