Zach Lokken (Durango, Colo.) placed 9th in the Under-23 men’s canoe final on Sunday, as the Junior Slalom World Championships came to a close. The 19-year-old finished with a time of 116.84, including 3 gate touch penalties. His time was +11.47 seconds behind the first place finisher – Patrik Gajarsky of host country Slovakia.

We had an excellent day of racing on the Wildwater Sprint Course here at Lofer, Austria. All of our teams rose to the occasion to post respectable times, and our junior athletes deserve credit for working together to successfully negotiate the Technical Team Race constraints on a demanding course.

Dana Mann (Washington, D.C.) placed 26th in the women’s kayak semifinal with a time of 125.49, which was +16.89 seconds behind the round’s first place finisher. Mann incurred two gate touch penalties during her run. She qualified for the semifinal with a 9th place ranking after Friday’s heats.

Dana Mann (Washington, D.C.) finished 14th in women’s K-1 in her first World Cup of the season and first as a member of Team USA. The Slovakia-born paddler turned in a semifinal run time of 118.17, which was +6.86 seconds behind the round’s first place finisher. She incurred one gate touch penalty, which was enough to knock her out of the Top 10 and a place in the Final.

New U.S. paddler Fabien Lefevre (Bethesda, Md.) won the Bronze medal in the Men’s Kayak (K-1) Saturday at the 2013 Slalom World Cup No. 1. The two-time Olympic medalist for France improved from 16th after heats and 5th after the semifinals with a penalty-free final run time of 89.14, which was 2.03 seconds behind the Gold medalist Fabien Doerfler of Germany.
