These athletes qualified for the World Championships with their performances at the 2012 U.S. Slalom Junior Team Trials at the Potomac Whitewater Racing Center (PWRC) in Dickerson, MD, June 1-2. Click HERE for full results.
Local paddlers Michael Rudnitsky and Cole Moore battled for the top spot among men’s kayaks with Rudnitsky finishing first – this after his competitive performance at the Senior/U23 Team Trials. Elliot Bertrand led the way in men’s single canoe and then teamed up with Rudnitsky to finish 1st in doubles canoe.
In women’s kayak, Eliza Malakoff and Evelyn Van Horn squared off, with Malakoff finishing with the better overall weekend after Van Horn placed 3rd among all women’s kayaks at the Senior/U23 Team Trials in May. Moriah Heaney finished 3rd in women’s kayak and 1st in canoe.
In all, six of the nominees call the PWRC their home base.
The 2013 U.S. Under-23 Team was named after the Senior/U23 Team Trials at the Adventure Sports Center International in McHenry, MD, May 17-19. Click HERE for a recap and roster.
The 2013 Senior National Team will compete on the 2013 ICF Slalom World Cup circuit, which begins June 21 in Cardiff, UK.
The 2012 Under-23/Junior World Championships were held in Wausau, Wis.
