Women's Canoe Polo to Compete at 2013 World Games
The countdown to World Games 2013 is less than one week away! The US Women’s National Kayak Team was invited to attend this extraordinary multi-sport event after securing their place as the highest ranked Americas team at the 2012 Canoe Polo World Championships in Poznań, Poland. The games will take place July 25 to August 5, 2013 in Cali, Colombia.
As Canoe Polo isn’t an Olympic event, the World Games serve as the “pinnacle of Canoe Polo” according to Greg Smale, Chairman of the ICF Canoe Polo Committee. World Games Canoe Polo competition will take place on August 2-3. The women will face-off against the top five teams in the world in a round robin format before playing for final ranking.
- Marijo Bosiljevac (Omaha, NE)
- Kim Parker (Charlotte, NC)
- April Romeo (Nashville, TN)
- Giselle Nguyen (Los Angeles, CA)
- Mary Ann King (San Francisco, CA)
- Jacquelyn Gonzales (New York, NY)
- Molly Cummings (Austin, TX)
- Katie Homann (Guilverand, NY)
The team is coached by Stephen Gale (Canmore, Alberta, Canada) and Nigel Graham (Irmo, SC).
Gathering together for training camps every few weeks since the start of the year, these women have focused on learning a new style of game play and seek to build the strongest US Women’s Kayak Polo Team the world has seen in years.
The World Games competition will be an excellent test for Team USA, who will return to the States to face-off against Canada in the World Championships Qualifying event in San Francisco, CA at the end of September.
