USA Marathon Team Prepares for the World Championships in Copenhagen

The USA Marathon Team has submitted its list of athletes to the ICF for the Marathon World Championships, to be held September 18-22 on Lake Bagsvaerd in Copenhagen, Denmark.    

Kevin Seitz (LCKC) has spearheaded the pre-race logistics, but will pass the Team Leader baton to Holm Schmidt (KEYPA) once the team arrives in Denmark. Shaun Caven, head of the USA Sprint Program, will also accompany the team:      

SENIOR WOMEN K2: Kaitlyn McElroy & Maggie Hogan (OKCRS) will again represent the USA following an impressive 8th place finish at last year’s World Championships in Rome. Both Kaitlyn and Maggie are also members of the U.S. national sprint team. 

SENIOR WOMEN K1: Alex McLain (LCKC) will make her debut in the Senior Women’s K1 event, after competing at last year’s Worlds in the U-23 class.   

SENIOR MEN K1: Borys Markin (Rockaway Olympic, NY), a former World Championship bronze medalist in the 200-meter sprint (K4), and Brad Pennington (HCKC), twice runner-up at the Marathon Trials, both will make their first appearance on the start line at next month’s Marathon Worlds. 

U-23 MEN K1: Logan Mynar (TCKRA) will also be making his first appearance at Worlds following an impressive U-23 K1 win at the marathon team trials in Houston in May.   

JUNIOR MEN K1: Jesse Lishchuk (KEYPA) is making his debut at Marathon Worlds after also making the national sprint team earlier this year.   

SENIOR MEN C1 - Amniel ‘Pepe’ Naranjo (SFCKC), the 2012 C1 marathon trials winner was not able to compete in Rome, but will be on the start line for Team USA in Copenhagen.

U-23 MEN C1Ian Ross (Washington Canoe Club), a standout at both this year’s Marathon Team Trials and the Sprint National Championships will be the USA’s U-23 representative in Denmark. 

SENIOR MEN C2Ian Ross (Washington Canoe Club) will step in age class for the C2 race to team up with Amniel Naranjo (SFCKC).
