Canoe/Kayak

A Fitting Victory

Jan. 05, 2012, 8:22 p.m. (ET)

Seeing the news came across the wire today that the Nantahala Outdoor Center (NOC) had won the prestigious Outdoor Industry Association’s “Outdoor Inspiration Award,” I was immediate happy for my long-time friends in western North Carolina. As an iconic leeader in paddlesports celebrating its 40th anniversary in 2012, NOC is a natural choice for this award that recognizes contribution and innovation towards the future of outdoor recreation. This is a well deserved honor for CEO Sutton Bacon and his team.

Upon closer look at the attributes that positioned NOC for this recognition, I couldn’t help but notice the number of competitive programs, youth paddling opportunities and other USA Canoe/Kayak-sanctioned events mentioned in the press release. From launching the Nantahala Kids Club to supporting competitions ranging from the entry-level Canoe Club Challenge to USA Canoe/Kayak Slalom National Championships, NOC has embraced the challenge of bridging the gap between recreational and competitive paddling, an absolute “must” for the sport and key part of USA Canoe/Kayak’s Goals.

Congratulations NOC! Thank you for your support of USA Canoe/Kayak and Paddle Now!
