I can always tell when I’m a little nervous when I pop my skirt to tighten my foot pegs just before my race run. It reminds me of when I first started playing lacrosse in middle school and would tie my cleats as tightly as possible, as if to let myself know I was about to go my hardest. Today I recorded my first top ten finish in a senior level race! Going into the semifinal I wanted to paddle with the same confidence I had on my second qualification run that earned me the right to race today. The first run was solid, and I felt that I paddled was a good balance of control and urgency. While my final run was not as quick as my semifinal, I was largely composed during the run, only getting offline in one section that added some time to my final score. I would like to take the opportunity to thank my family, friends, and coaches for reaching out this weekend and supporting me, you are all a big help! I look forward to cheering for our K1 men, C1 woman, and C2 tomorrow as the Australian Open wraps up!
