This week I enjoyed the company of family, friends, and athletes as we congregated in Charlotte for the last week of whitewater at the USNWC for this year. We all worked hard on and off the water as most of the team participated in the annual Thanksgiving camp. Although school conflicts prevented me from formally participating in the camp, I am thankful for the USA Canoe/Kayak coaches and team staff who work hard to maximize our performance not just this week but all year.
We closed out the week with a race at the USNWC, which was a nice practice for the Olympic Team trials held at the same venue this April. I raced well on Saturday but struggled a bit today, overall a good learning experience. I was also glad to see a good showing of younger athletes, some paddling and racing the Charlotte course for the first time. I was impressed with their effort and hope to see them on the start list for Olympic trials.
So, what next? I will finish out this semester at Davidson and then start my training campaign for 2012. I will train in Maryland through Christmas before making my second visit to Lake Placid, NY for cross-country ski training. From there I will come home for a bit and then head to Australia for warm weather training. It’ll be an exciting winter!
