New Beginnings; Happy to be onboard

1ST and foremost, I want to express what a privilege and honor it is to serve as your USA Canoe/Kayak (USA C/K) Board of Director’s Chair. In the short time I have been on board I have quickly recognized the great passion we all have for our sport and disciplines. I look forward to meeting and working with everyone as we move our National Governing Body (NGB) to great heights.
My professional and personal philosophy is I have an open door policy; which means -  bottom line, I am available to you. Also, so you are fully aware since my coming onboard, your Board of Directors have hit the deck running, are fully engaged and committed to making USA C/K’s NGB world class.
For a quick intro, my active duty Naval Aviation career spanned 28 years and I commanded in combat at multiple levels. My background includes a full spectrum of senior leadership and management from unit level organizations of some 200 people to 3500 Task Force level where readiness was essential to mission success. My military awards include the Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit (2), Bronze Star, Air Medal (2 Strike/Flight), and Navy Commendation Medals with two Combat Distinguishing devices.
I currently serve as Colorado Technical University’s Dean for developing strategic direction for all security programming as it relates to Homeland, Energy, Critical Infrastructure, Public Safety and Health.  My role is as the leader of the CTU programmatic direction into the security field which will entail building significant relationships that will embed CTU into the fabric of the security apparatus through our educational offerings. The programmatic focus includes guiding and collaboratively adapting appropriate bachelor, masters, and doctoral degrees, and other certifications and contracts for training programs.
I earned an engineering degree from Georgia Tech, and received my Master’s degree from National War College. I am a graduate of the Executive Level Leadership School from Naval Post Graduate School and Newport, Rhode Island. My wife’s name is Katie and I have two children, Elizabeth (24) and Bobby (22).
