Women's Canoe Added To 2009 Sprint Sr. World Championships

Jan. 28, 2009, 10:39 a.m. (ET)

Women's canoe events are being added to the 2009 Senior World Championships for the second time as a demonstration event to be held in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada August 12-16, 2009. The first exhibitions were held at the 2003 Senior World Championships at Lake Lanier, GA.

This is an historic achievement and has come about through the ongoing efforts of a number of strong supporters of Women in Canoe. One of those advocates is Pam Boteler of the Washington Canoe Club. Congratulations Pam on all of your efforts and good luck this summer.

Team USA may send up to six athletes. These athletes will be determined at the U.S. National Team Trials on April 24-26, 2009. The selection criteria has been approved by USA Canoe Kayak's Sprint Selection Committee and is available here.
