Sunday’s competition continued to clarify the USA Canoe/Kayak Team that will represent the U.S. in the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games this August. Morgan House, in winning the Senior Men K-1 500m in blazing time, gives the U.S. an additional athlete quota spot to the Olympics. After the competition this weekend, this is the U.S. National team that will compete in the upcoming World Cups:
Of these six, Carrie Johnson and Rami Zur will definitely make the trip to Beijing. Either Morgan House or Jeff Smoke will also go, but not both. World Cup outcomes and decisions by the athletes on the event in which they will compete will finalize this berth. Jordan Malloch and Maggie Hogan still have a chance for China, but their fate largely rests in the hands of any potential International Canoe Federation reassignment of re-allottments.
