Heather Corrie (Charlotte, N.C.) has advanced to the semifinal round of the women's single kayak whitewater slalom competition being held at the Shunyi Olympic Rowing-Canoeing Park. Her combined scored of 211.31 from her two runs down the course included a pair of two-second gate touch penalties. Elena Kaliska of Slovakia leads the field with a score of 186.19, 1.37 ahead of China's Li Jingjing.
Meanwhile the doubles canoe team of Casey Eichfeld (Drums, Pa.) and Ricky Powell (Parkesburg, Pa.) were unable to advance in their event. After posting a score of 101.69 in their first run, they were assessed a two-second gate touch penalty and a 50-second penalty for missing another gate. The resulting score of 253.34 put them in 11th place.
