Micki Reeves Takes Bronze in Pyrenees Cup:
Third place finish overall

In the Senior Men's race, Borys Markin led from start to finish. Markin, a former K4 bronze medalist in the 200-meter Sprint World Championships, represented the Rockaway Olympic Center (NY). By virtue of winning his division and beating the mandatory time standard, Markin punched his ticket to the ICF Marathon World Championships, to be held in Denmark in September.

2013 US Marathon Team Trials:
4 athletes meet time standard, qualify for World Championships

Maggie Hogan (San Diego, Calif.) and Kaitlyn McElroy (Oklahoma City, Okla.) won the Silver medal Saturday in the Women’s K2 1000m, following up on their Bronze medal won last weekend in the same event. They crossed the line 3:39.969, +2.494 seconds behind the first place finishers from Australia.

Western Maryland hosts 2013 U.S. Slalom Team Trials

Maggie Hogan (San Diego, Calif.) and Kaitlyn McElroy (Oklahoma City, Okla.) won the Bronze medal in the women’s K2 1000m race. They finished in 3:54.966, 1.008 seconds behind the first place finisher. Two local Hungarian boats finished 1st and 2nd.

The 2013 Team Trials marks the beginning of a new Olympic quadrennial, in which there will be some big shoes to fill. In senior women’s kayak, Kaitlyn McElroy (Oklahoma City, Okla.) will get the first shot at replacing replace three-time Olympian Carrie Johnson (San Diego, Calif.), who retired after London to enter veterinary school. McElroy finished first in both the 200m and 500m finals before teaming up with her Oklahoma City Boathouse District training partner Maggie Hogan (San Diego, Calif.) to win the K2 500m distance.
