Jan. 10, 2014, 3:16 p.m. (ET)
(RENO, NEV.) – USA Boxing International Teaching Coach Pedro Roque (Colorado Springs, Colo.) is certainly making the most out of his full week in Reno, Nev., at the 2014 Junior and Youth Open. Roque is leading daily training sessions for all interested tournament participants prior to the start of the day’s boxing competition at the Grand Sierra Resort.

More than 50 boxers, including athletes who have been eliminated and those who are enjoying off days from tournament action, have participated in training sessions with Coach Roque. 2012 Olympians Marlen Esparza (Houston, Texas) and Queen Underwood (Seattle, Wash.) have been training with the young athletes in Reno.

Coach Roque has included conditioning work, tech sparring and international techniques in the daily training sessions with the large group of athletes.  Many athletes who were eliminated in the previous day’s action are joining their fellow athletes in the morning workouts. In addition to those participating in the workouts, the young athletes competing in the night’s action have chosen to come and watch and learn from the training sessions.

The daily workouts have given young athletes throughout the country the chance to work with and learn from Coach Roque during their week in Reno and can value knowledge despite the outcome of the result of the bouts.

Boxing action will recommence with 43 semifinal bouts on Friday evening at the Grand Sierra Resort.
