Cam F Awesome Wins Gold at the Felix Stamm Tournament
(COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO.) – American super heavyweight Cam F. Awesome (Lenexa, Kansas) continued his international success this week at the Felix Stamm Tournament in Warsaw, Poland. Awesome not only won a gold medal at the international competition, but was also named the Outstanding Technical Boxer of the Tournament. Fellow American boxers Marlen Esparza (Houston, Texas), Genaro Gamez (San Diego, Calif.), and Jose Alday, Jr. (Odessa, Texas) each claimed bronze medals at the event.
Awesome defeated four high level opponents during the event in Poland, including foes from Russia in Ukraine in his opening two bouts. He started the competition with a victory over Russia’s Gasan Gimbatov. The win moved Awesome on to the quarterfinal round where he battled Ukraine’s Vladyslav Sirenko. Awesome’s second win set up a bout with Georgia’s Tornike Puritcha Maishvili in the semifinal round. He recorded a unanimous decision victory over Maishvili in semifinal action to earn a spot in the super heavyweight championship bout.
Awesome entered the final round contest in his typical relaxed fashion, doing a front flip in to the ring for his bout with Ireland’s Dean Gardnier. He continued his patented movements in the championship bout and went on to win the Felix Stamm crown with a unanimous decision victory over Gardnier. Today’s gold medal win is the second international title of the year for Awesome following his victory at the Independence Cup in February.
Coaches Luis Gamez (San Diego, Calif.) and Jose Alday, Sr. (Odessa, Texas) led the U.S. squad in Poland.
