(COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO.) – USA Boxing is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of 2013 USA Boxing Youth National Champion Alexis Urbina (Phoenix, Ariz.) on Wednesday.

“The thoughts of prayers of the entire boxing community are with Alexis’ family and friends at this difficult time,” said USA Boxing Executive Director Anthony Bartkowski. “Alexis was a special young man and a talented boxer with an incredibly bright future both in and out of the boxing ring. His life was cut way too short and he will be sorely missed by everyone at USA Boxing.”

A gold medalist in the light welterweight division at the 2013 USA Boxing Youth National Championships, Urbina was one of the few youth boxers chosen to participate in a recent training camp with top junior boxers at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. USA Boxing International Teaching Coach Pedro Roque and USA Boxing’s staff greatly enjoyed the opportunity to work with him and are devastated by his passing.

Our sincere condolences go out to Alexis’ family and friends, his coach Andrews Soto, and his boxing family at the Knock Out Boxing Club in Phoenix, Ariz. Alexis will be greatly missed.
