The Miami-based USA Knockouts put on a show for the home fans in their home opener at the Miccosukee Resort Casino in south Florida on Friday night, pulling out a 3-2 victory over the visiting Argentina Condors in World Series of Boxing action.

Due to illness, the Knockouts went in to the match-up down one bout with the Condors claiming the heavyweight bout by walkover.

Flyweight Anthony Chacon of Puerto Rico scored the first win over the night for the USA Knockouts with a unanimous decision victory over the Condors’ Patrick Lourenco. The win moved the night’s face-off to a 1-1 tie.

The Condors answered the Knockouts in the second contested bout of the evening between visiting boxer Alberto Ezequiel Melian and USA Knockout and USA Boxing National Championships silver medalist Stephen Fulton, Jr. (Philadelphia, Pa.). Melian won a 3-0 decision over Fulton in the bantamweight match-up to give the Condors a one-bout edge with three matches remaining.

In light welterweight action, 2013 National Champion Jose Alday, Jr. (Odessa, Texas) competed in his World Series of Boxing debut in a bout with the Condors’ Alberto Palmetta. Alday earned a unanimous decision victory over Palmetta, taking the bout by one round on all three judges’ scorecards.

With Alday’s victory, the night’s match went in to the final bout tied 2-2. It was up to 2008 Olympic Training Partner and WSB veteran to win his squad’s home opener and he did just that. Plant dominated his middleweight showdown with the Argentina Condors’ Tomas Andres Reynoso. The American boxer won every round on all three judges’ scorecards to take the unanimous decision win and secure a victory for the USA Knockouts.

The Knockouts will return to action on December 6 as they travel to Blida, Algeria to face off with the Algeria Desert Hawks.
