(COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO.) – The young boxers who will represent Team USA at the 2013 Junior Men’s World Championships have traveled to Colorado Springs for their first preparatory camp at the Olympic Training Center.  The 11 athletes participating in the junior training camp all earned their way there through victories at the Junior World Team Open in January.

USA Boxing International Teaching Coach Pedro Roque Otano (Colorado Springs, Colo.) will guide the training camp, giving the athletes their first introduction to both the Olympic Training Center and preparation for international competition. The camp is the second for Otano at the OTC with his first training camp resulting in seven medals at the Independence Cup in the Dominican Republic.

The athletes arrived in Colorado Springs on Wednesday and the camp will run through March 17 in Colorado Springs. The squad of future stars includes: light flyweight Jordan White (Waldorf, Md.), flyweight Daniel Gonzalez (Moreno Valley, Calif.), flyweight Evan Sanchez (Fresno, Calif.), light bantamweight Shakur Stevenson (Newark, N.J.), bantamweight Devin Haney (Las Vegas, Nev.), featherweight Michael Nelson (Mansfield, Ohio), lightweight Keoni Adric, Jr. (Haleima, Hawaii), light welterweight Brandon Trejo (Napa, Calif.), welterweight Javier Estrada (Palmdale, Calif.), light middleweight Alexis Rocha (Santa Ana, Calif.), and middleweight Eric Murguia (Mission Hills, Calif.).

The training camp will give the 15 and 16-year-old boxers an introduction to national level training camps and the many benefits of the Olympic Training Center. The junior program has consistently been an important developmental pipeline and USA Boxing has placed a renewed focus on providing the younger athletes with valuable competitive and training opportunities for both the males and females in 2013.

Four of the medalists from the recent Independence Cup will join their younger counterparts in Colorado Springs with light flyweight Leroy Davila (New Brunswick, N.J.), flyweight Shawn Simspon (Chicago, Ill.), lightweight Kenneth Sims, Jr. (Chicago, Ill.) and welterweight Rashidi Ellis (Lynn, Mass.) returning to the Olympic Training Center on Sunday. All of the elite level athletes are currently preparing for the 2013 USA Boxing National Championships, March 31-April 6 in Spokane, Wash.
