July 12, 2013, 1:59 p.m. (ET)

(COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO.) – Two United States’ boxers will compete for their third international gold medals of the year at the 2013 Makar Mazai Memorial in Mariupol, Ukraine on Saturday. It will be the largest and smallest members of Team USA stepping in to the ring for final round action as light flyweight Leroy Davila (New Brunswick, N.J.) and super heavyweight Cam F. Awesome (Lenexa, Kansas) compete for gold. Flyweight Malik Jackson (Washington DC) and heavyweight Michael Hilton (Trenton N.J.) both fell to Ukrainian foes in their semifinal bouts on Friday.

Awesome won his second bout of the tournament on Friday with a 2-1 victory over Russia’s Gasan Gimbatov to advance to the final round contest. He will take on a Ukrainian boxer in the super heavyweight final on Saturday.

Jackson and Hilton both suffered 3-0 losses in their semifinal contest with home nation boxers, but will return home with bronze medals from the event.

Davila won his semifinal round contest on Thursday and will join Awesome in the tournament finals on Saturday when he faces Ukraine for gold. Davila and Awesome, who are once again serving as Team Co-captains, took gold in two events in Puerto Rico in June, and hope to add an additional gold medal to their international records on Saturday.

Awesome is undefeated in 2013, winning the USA Boxing National Championships and National Golden Gloves as well as gold medals in his international bouts. Known for his vegan lifestyle, which he’s introduced to several of his teammates, Awesome is the most internationally experienced boxer on the elite men’s squad.

After falling one win short of competing for a spot on the 2012 U.S. Olympic Team last year, Davila opened the year in international action, taking silver at the Independence Cup in February before winning his first USA Boxing National Championship in April.

The four medals Team USA is guaranteed in Ukraine brings the international total to 64 for the year for USA Boxing squads. The Makar Mazai Tournament is the eighth international event of the year for USA Boxing.

Coaches Kevin Benford (Cincinnati, Ohio) and Kenneth Sims, Sr. (Chicago, Ill.) are leading the team into action in Ukraine.
