(COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO.) – Five members of Team USA will take the ring on Friday at the Men’s Continental Championships, each aiming to continue the winning streak Team Captain Cam F. Awesome (Lenexa, Kansas) began on Thursday with his opening bout win in Santiago, Chile.

The first session of the day will start with two stern tests for the United States squad as flyweight Malik Jackson (Washington DC) faces 2012 Olympian Jantony Ortiz of Puerto Rico and light heavyweight Geremias Torres (Holyoke, Mass.) battles Cuba’s Luis Ramon.

Bantamweight Eduardo Martinez (Aurora, Ill.) will be the lone competitor to compete in the afternoon session. Martinez will take on a home nation boxer, Chile’s Vojnic Opazo, in his opening contest.

The evening session will feature two United States bouts against Caribbean nations with welterweight Jamontay Clark (Cincinnati, Ohio) challenging Akiel Outram from Trinidad and Tobago and middleweight LeShawn Rodriquez (Shirley, N.Y.) facing off with Carl Heild from the Bahamas.

Awesome continued his own 2013 winning streak in the final bout of Thursday’s first day action, winning a unanimous 3-0 decision over Puerto Rico’s Gerardo Bisbal. He will return to action on Sunday in semifinal round competition against Panama’s Ronaldo Bermudez.

Light welterweight Jose Alday (Odessa, Texas) and heavyweight Michael Hilton (Trenton, N.J.) received a first round bye and will compete in Saturday’s competition.

The event is the first international ranking tournament for the elite men as they begin their run toward the 2013 AIBA World Championships and beyond. Coaches Bienvenido “Benny” Roman (Brooklyn, N.Y.), Kenneth Sims, Sr. (Chicago, Ill.), Kevin Benford (Cincinnati, Ohio), and Edward "Mike" Murphy (Port Jeff Station, N.Y.) are leading the squad in Chile with Dr. Lucien Parrillo (Wallingford, Conn.) serving as the Team Physician.
