Alex Love Elected USOC Athletic Advisory Council Representative
(COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO.) – 2012 National Champion and Olympic Trials for Women’s Boxing participant Alex Love (Monroe, Wash.) has been elected to represent the sport of boxing on the United States Olympic Committee Athletic Advisory Council. Love’s term will begin on January 1, 2013 and she will replace long-standing representative Aaron Alafa (Porterville, Calif.).
The 23-year-old Love was one of the history-making 24 women to compete in the first-ever Olympic Trials for Women’s Boxing in February. She moved down to the light flyweight division for the USA Boxing National Championships, where she won a gold medal and earned a berth on the 2012 Women’s World Championships team. As a former USA Boxing National Team member, she will bring valuable experience to her role as a USOC AAC representative.
Love felt that it was important to make her voice heard through the AAC and hopes to provide a voice to USA Boxing’s athletes and ensure that their needs are met. She will serve a four-year term on the USOC Athlete Advisory Council.
2012 Olympian Jamel Herring was selected as the alternate for the position.
