(COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO.) – Bantamweight Gary Salazar (Fresno, Calif.) won his second straight bout of the 2012 Youth World Championships on Saturday, stopping Syria’s Ali Ghosoun in the first round of their contest. Salazar is the second American boxer to record a first round stoppage win at the event. Light heavyweight Anthony Sims, Jr. (Ypsilanti, Mich.) accomplished the same feat in Friday’s action in Yerevan, Armenia as well.
Salazar faced Gosoun in the lone U.S. contest on Saturday and he needed only half a round to claim the second round victory. The American bantamweight stopped Gosoun at the 1:26 mark of the opening stanza to move on to a third round contest with Iraq’s Karrar Aal-Ezirej on Monday.
Lightweight Maliek Montgomery (Macon, Ga.) will compete for his second win of the tournament when he faces Croatia’s Luka Mazar on Sunday.
