2009 USA Boxing National Championships Dates Finalized

The 2009 USA Boxing National Championships have officially been set. The event will be contested in men's, women's and Junior Olympic action from June 8-13 at the Denver Coliseum in Denver, Colo. The arrival date for all competitors will be June 7 and the departure date will be June 14. A full fact sheet for the event will be available shortly.

The 2009 USA Boxing National Championships will feature several changes, with not only the Junior Olympic and open division boxers competing in the same event, but also the men's open division competitors boxing in three-three minute rounds. The number of rounds will remain the same in both the women's open division and Junior Olympic divisions.

In addition, the weight classes have changed in both the Junior Olympic male and female divisions. The new weight classes will be as follows:

Open Division Female

  • 101lbs (46kg)
  • 106lbs (48kg)
  • 112lbs (51kg)
  • 119lbs (54kg)
  • 125lbs (57kg)
  • 132lbs (60kg)
  • 141lbs (64kg)
  • 152lbs (69kg)
  • 165lbs (75kg)
  • 178lbs (81kg)
  • 178+lbs (81+kg)

Junior Olympic Senior Male (15-16)

  • 101lbs (46kg)
  • 106lbs (48kg)
  • 110lbs (50kg)
  • 114lbs (52kg)
  • 119lbs (54kg)
  • 125lbs (57kg)
  • 132lbs (60kg)
  • 138lbs (63kg)
  • 145lbs (66kg)
  • 154lbs (70kg)
  • 165lbs (75kg)
  • 176lbs (80kg)
  • 176+lbs (80+kg)

These rule changes were to bring USA Boxing into compliance with AIBA's rules as the USA Boxing National Championships were serve as a qualifier for international competition. All USA Boxing National Championships qualifiers which take place after January 1, 2009 must be contested in compliance with all of these new rules.
