2009 National Silver Gloves Set to Kick Off in Missouri

The 2009 National Silver Gloves championships are set to kick off on Thursday, February 5 in Independence, Mo., as the nation's top young boxers have the opportunity to take home a national championship.

All of the competitors, which range in age from 10 to 15-years-old, have qualified for the national event through local tournaments. The event, which will be contested at the Truman Ballroom in the Hilton Garden Inn, will run from February 5-7 with the champions all being crowned on Saturday, February 7.

Competition will begin at 6 p.m. on Thursday with competition being held in three rings. Friday will feature two sessions of boxing at 1 p.m. and 6 p.m., and the event will conclude on Saturday with one session at 3 p.m.

The National Silver Gloves is a highlight event for all of the United States' younger boxers, and consistently showcases the future stars of boxing. Seven of the nine 2008 U.S. Olympians competed in the Silver Gloves as youngsters.
