World Cup and Intercontinental Cup seasons conclude this weekend

CALGARY, Canada (Feb. 6, 2012)– The final World Cup and Intercontinental Cup races of the 2011-2012 season will take place this week. The eighth World Cup event will take place in Calgary, Canada from Thursday through Saturday, while the Intercontinental Cup will wrap up in Park City, Utah with races on Friday and Saturday. The next stop will be on home ice for 2012 World Championships in Lake Placid, N.Y.

“We want to wrap the World Cup season up on a high note and carry the momentum into World Championships,” said Tuffy Latour, skeleton head coach.  “We have a history of success on the Calgary track, so we’re confident heading into the final race.”

The women’s and men’s skeleton competitions will both take place on Thursday.  The women will race at 2 pm local time followed by the men at 6 pm.  Women’s bobsled will kick off racing at 2 pm on Friday, and men’s two-man bobsled is scheduled immediately afterwards at 6 pm.  The men’s four-man bobsled race will conclude the 2011-2012 World Cup season at 4 pm on Saturday.

Annie O’Shea, Katie Uhlaender, Matt Antoine, John Daly and Greg West will represent the U.S. in the skeleton competitions.  Women’s bobsled driver Bree Schaaf will once again be joined by rookie pilots Jamie Greubel and Megan Hill.  Men’s bobsled drivers Nick Cunningham and Cory Butner both broke into the top ten in their season World Cup debut in Whistler, Canada last weekend and will look for a top six performance on a more familiar track in Calgary.

The Intercontinental Cup tour will also wrap up the season this weekend.  Races will take place at noon MST on Friday and 10 am on Saturday at the Utah Olympic Park.  Kyle Tress, Tom Santagato, Luke Schulz, Kimber Gabryszak and Savannah Graybill are scheduled to compete.
