Feb. 12 U.S. Olympic Skeleton Team official training quotes

KRASNAYA POLYANA, Russia (Feb. 12, 2014): The U.S. Olympic Skeleton Team took their final training runs at the Sanki Sliding Center today. Competition kicks off tomorrow with the first two heats of the women’s race at 11:30 a.m. Here’s what Tuffy Latour (Saranac Lake, N.Y.), skeleton head coach, had to say:

“It was another solid day of training for our women and men. Matt Antoine is looking strong and we’re really looking forward to his performance in a couple of days. John Daly had a great day yesterday and struggled through corner nine today, but I know he’ll clean it up for the race. Kyle Tress is consistent each and every training run, and we expect him to be in the mix. I’m pretty excited about the men’s team.

On the women’s side, Noelle Pikus-Pace took a couple of days off to rest up before the four-heat race, and I’m very excited to see her back on ice. Katie Uhlaender struggled a little today, because it’s the anniversary of her father’s death. She tried to push through it, but it was an emotional day. Tomorrow we can focus on the race and I’m expecting big things from both of these women.”

Time sheets from today’s training runs can be found here.

The women have the first two competitive heats tomorrow from 11:30 a.m.-1:45 p.m. and the final two heats on Friday from 7:40-10 p.m.  The men start competing on Friday from 4:30-7 p.m., and have their final runs on Saturday from 6:45-9:15 p.m.
