Feb. 8 U.S. Olympic Women’s Skeleton Team training quotes
KRASNAYA POLYANA, Russia (Feb. 8, 2014): The U.S. Olympic Women’s Skeleton Team took their final unofficial training runs at the Sanki Sliding Center this morning. Katie Uhlaender (Breckenridge, Colo.) took advantage of the two additional runs before official training begins on Monday. Here’s what she had to say:
Regarding the vote on Twitter (@KatieU11) for which helmet she should race in:
“I didn’t realize it was going to go that crazy. Jimmy Shea hooked me up with his helmet designer for the first helmet. I changed it up a little, but it looks similar. He was trying to help me a lot going into Torino. Picabo Street is my mentor, and we developed a friendship over the last four years. Her guy did the second helmet, so I have two Olympic medalists behind each helmet.”
About today’s training:
“My first run was good. It’s coming along and I feel really good on the track. It’s tricky. There are three uphill sections here. If you make a mistake, it’s over.”
Unofficial training continues tomorrow at 8 a.m. for men’s skeleton, while the women have the day off before official training gets underway. Please contact Amanda Bird, USBSF Marketing & Communications Director, at firstname.lastname@example.org or 719-207-5040 with media inquiries.
