U.S. National Skeleton Championships start Tuesday

LAKE PLACID, N.Y. (March 11, 2013)- The 2013 U.S. National Skeleton Championships will take place in Lake Placid, N.Y. from March 12-13.  Thirty-six athletes will have a chance to compete for the national championship title in four heats held over two days of racing.  Competitions will be held on both days at Mount Van Hoevenberg from 9 am-12 pm.

“Nationals gives us a chance to get everybody from the various programs together to race head to head,” said U.S. head skeleton coach Tuffy Latour.  “We limit the number of athletes that can compete in team selection races, but nationals are open to every athlete in the program from clubs to the national team.”

The event is not mandatory, but several national team athletes such as John Daly, Matt Antoine, Kyle Tress, Katie Uhlaender and Annie O’Shea are scheduled to race.  Antoine finished just ahead of Daly and Tress to claim the 2012 title.  Second-year competitor Megan Henry is the reigning women’s champion, but Henry is currently on medical leave and will have to wait another year before she has an opportunity to reclaim her title.
