Bausch caps first half of European Cup season with eighth place finish

WINTERBGER, Germany (Dec. 18, 2013)- Lauri Bausch (Fredonia, Wisc.) led the U.S. skeleton team with an eighth place finish in Winterberg, Germany’s European Cup race to cap the first half of the season. 

Bausch clocked identical runs of 59.91 seconds in the two-heat women’s race for a total time of 1:59.82 to lead Team USA. Meghan Sullivan (Bluemont, Va.) posted runs of 59.93 and 1:00.47 for a cumulative time of 2:00.40 for 11th place.

Germans swept the women’s skeleton podium on one of their home tracks. Kim Meylemans was victorious in 1:57.68, Maxi Just was second with a total time of 1:58.07, and Anna Fernstaedt clocked a two-run total of 1:58.27 for third.

Americans Alex Ivanov (Calisle, Mass.) and Kevin McGlade (Stafford, Va.) finished 17th and 18th, respectively. Ivanov slid times of 58.68 and 58.34 for a total of 1:57.02, while McGlade crossed the finish line in 58.46 and 58.63 seconds for a combined time of 1:57.09.

Team Germany also swept the men’s skeleton medals. Dominic Rady won with a combined time of 1:54.30, followed by Axel Jungk in second (1:54.59) and Michael Zachrau in third (1:55.12).
