Steven Holcomb (Park City, Utah) hopes to repeat his sweep of the races in Calgary in front of a home crowd in Park City. Holcomb and Chris Fogt (Alpine, Utah) broke the start record during two-man bobsled selection races in October, but it didn’t count since it didn’t take place during an international competition. The duo will be eager to stake their claim as they race together in the BMW manufactured sled on Friday. Holcomb will compete with Curt Tomasevicz (Shelby, Neb.), Steve Langton (Melrose, Mass.) and Fogt in the Night Train2 for Saturday morning’s four-man race.
Dallas Robinson (Georgetown, Ky.) will race as Nick Cunningham’s (Monterey, Calif.) two-man specialist this week. Former Olympic gold medalist Justin Olsen (San Antonio, Texas) returns to World Cup competition after an injury suffered during the off-season, and will compete alongside Johnny Quinn (McKinney, Texas) and Abe Morlu (Phoenix, Ariz.) in Cunningham’s four-man sled.
Cory Butner (Yucaipa, Calif.) will race with Chuck Berkeley (Walnut Creek, Calif.) in two-man. Adam Clark (Owenton, Ky.) is back in the mix this week and will team with Berkeley and Chris Langton (Melrose, Mass.) in Butner’s four-man sled.
Elana Meyers (Douglasville, Ga.) and Aja Evans (Chicago, Ill.) battled the Canadians for the start record in Calgary, and expect a similar contest for the record in Park City on Friday. Jamie Greubel (Newtown, Pa.) will again team with Katie Eberling (Palos Hills, Ill.), while Jazmine Fenlator (Wayne, N.J.) will pair with Emily Azevedo (Chico, Calif.) for the first time this season.
Women’s pairings for the second race on Saturday has yet to be determined. Please check the USA Bobsled & Skeleton website for updates.
Noelle Pikus-Pace (Orem, Utah) has yet to win a World Cup race on her home track in Park City, and the world’s fastest women is determined to reclaim gold after being robbed of her medal last week. Katie Uhlaender (Breckenridge, Colo.) is one of the best competitors on the Olympic track, and may have a breakthrough weekend following her recovery from a concussion sustained during training in October.
Matt Antoine (Prairie du Chien, Wisc.) was a split second from a podium performance in the season opener and is a threat for the medals in Park City. He’ll have to battle teammates and friends John Daly (Smithtown, N.Y.) and Kyle Tress (Ewing, N.J.) for medal position.
