U.S. Bobsled and Skeleton National Team Trials Begin in Lake Placid, NY
LAKE PLACID, N.Y. - Over 100 U.S. bobsled and skeleton athletes will reunite next week in Lake Placid, N.Y. to kick off the 2008-09 season with U.S. National Team Trials. The combined track at the Olympic Sports Complex on Mt. Van Hoevenberg will open on Monday, October 6th, and competition will begin on Thursday, October 9th.
Athletes will compete in a series of races in Lake Placid and Park City, Utah for a national rank that will designate the U.S. National Team. The top three ranked men's and women's bobsled teams will be selected for the World Cup team, as well as the top three men and women in skeleton.
The roster for competition boasts several returning Olympians, World Champions, and World Cup Champions including: 2002 Olympic bronze medalist Mike Kohn, 2002 Olympic silver medalists Todd Hays and Bill Schuffenhauer, 2006 Olympic silver medalists Shauna Rohbock and Valerie Fleming, 2006 Olympians Eric Bernotas, TJ Burns, Kevin Ellis, Pavle Jovanovic, Steve Mesler and Curt Tomasevicz, 2007 World Champion Noelle Pikus-Pace, 2008 World Cup Champion Katie Uhlaender, 2007 World Cup Champion Steven Holcomb, and 2007 World Cup Champion Zach Lund.
The schedule for the Lake Placid races will be as follows, weather permitting, with all times listed in EST:
Thursday, Oct. 9
- 7pm: Men's 2-man semi-finals
Saturday, Oct. 11
- 8 am: Men's and Women's Skeleton Semi-Finals
- 10:30 am: Women's Bobsled Finals #1 heats 1 & 2
Sunday, Oct. 12
- 9:30 am: Women's Bobsled Finals #1 heats 3 & 4, and Men's 2-man Bobsled Finals
Thursday, Oct. 16
- 9:30 am: Men's and Women's Skeleton Finals #1
- 11:30 am: Women's Bobsled Finals #2 heats 1 & 2
Friday, Oct. 17
- 9:30 am: Men's and Women's Skeleton Finals #2
- 11:30 am: Women's Bobsled Finals #2 heats 3 & 4, and Men's 4-man Bobsled Finals
