Bobsled and Skeleton World Cup in Cesana, Italy Cancelled

CESANA, Italy–Over 300 athletes and coaches departed Igls, Austria last weekend after the third bobsled and skeleton World Cup event, and drove into a storm that accumulated 2.5 meters of snow in Cesana, Italy.  The jury and race organizers concluded that the conditions were unsafe for training and competition.

The record-breaking snowfall and wind prevented track preparation, and the only road between the hotels in Sestriere and Cesana, where the track is located, was closed due to an avalanche.  The FIBT will meet to decide whether make-up races will be scheduled.
